What is it?
The People’s Assembly website provides information about our elected representatives and the institutions they serve, including positions held, committee attendance and private interests.
- Find your constituency's member of parliament (MP)
- View their register of interests including gifts, shares, property
- Track and compare MP meeting attendance
- Get your MP contact information
Why is it Important?
People often do not know who their MP is, how to contact them or what they do, partly because South Africa uses proportional representation rather than a constituency-based electoral system. The People’s Assembly website allows better scrutiny of our elected representatives and promotes accountability by bridging the gap between citizens and their elected representatives.
How can it be accessed and used?
All content on People's Assembly can be accessed via the home page.
A useful starting point is to find your member of parliament (MP) by searching on your address. From there you can open the individual MP profile and look at their Committee Attendance, Positions held, Register of Interests and Appearances at committees.
For more advanced data users you can work via the API.
